About The Speaker
Attorney Carolyn House Stewart of Tampa, Florida is the Immediate past (28th) International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Under her leadership, members volunteered 6 million hours of service and impacted the lives of 24 million people in communities all over the globe. Under the signature program 15,836 were enrolled in the Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) program and 85,000 new voters were registered through the International Connection Committee activities. Active membership reached historic numbers. Her 42-year record of service and commitment to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority began when she was initiated at the University of South Florida in 1972. Since then, she served in a host of leadership positions, including International Secretary and International First Vice President.
Attorney Stewart is former Of Counsel and former shareholder in the law firm of Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen, one of Florida’s oldest law firms; she was with the firm since 1994. She handled cases in the firm’s civil litigation, casualty, eminent domain and labor law sections. She served five years as a member of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners. Her 35-year legal career began after graduating with a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina Law Center. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1978. She practiced before the US District Courts for the Middle and Southern District of Florida and the US Court of Appeals for the 11th and 5th Circuits. Attorney Stewart is also licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Stewart is the CEO of Stewart Consulting Group, Inc. which specializes in management consulting for diversity, inclusion and cultural competency; leadership training and grant compliance. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Heifer International.
Her professional achievements have earned her numerous awards including the 2006 Florida Commission on the Status of Women “Achievement Award,” The National Bar Association Presidential Award and the Francisco Rodriguez Award from the George Edgecomb Bar Association. The National Bar Association honored Stewart with the Gertrude E. Rush Award in 2012 and Presidential Award in 2006. In 2013, she was presented the Sadie T. M. Alexander Award from the National Association of Black Law Students. Recently, she was recognized by the Trumpet Awards Foundation with its High Heels Award. In March 2014, she was presented the Phenomenal Woman’s Award from the Black Women’s Expo. Stewart also received the UNCF National Alumni Legacy Award for her support of education. She has also been honored with many awards and commendations for her dedication and outstanding service to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority including the Margaret Davis Bowen Award and Soror of the Year. She has served as Cluster II Co-Coordinator.
In addition to her law degree, Attorney Stewart holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Social Science Education from the University of South Florida. She serves on the Executive Committee of the USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy where an endowed scholarship was established and named in her honor by the South Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

About The Speaker
Dr. Lonnie L. Bryant is an Associate Professor of Finance. He holds a doctorate degree from the University of South Florida. He also has a Master’s of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina and The Escuela Superior de Administracion y Direccion de Empresas (ESADE) and an Engineering degree from the Florida A&M University. Dr. Bryant has received numerous grants and awards, including the Florida Trends Top 10 MBA professors, Researcher of the Year, Graduate Faculty member of the Year, a Harrah’s Research Center Real Estate Grant and the Southeast Decision Science Institute Best Paper Award.
Dr. Bryant has made over 20 professional presentations to such groups as the Financial Management Association, the Southeast Decision Science Institute, the Eastern Finance Association, the Southeastern Finance Association and Florida Education Fund. Dr. Bryant has also published in the Journal of Financial Intermediation, Global Finance Journal, Journal of Gambling Business and Economics, Journal of Instructional Pedagogies and Journal of Finance and Accountancy.
Dr. Bryant has conducted various valuation projects. His experience includes analysis of residential, mixed use, office, retail, vacant land, commercial properties and casino properties. Dr. Bryant is a Florida and South Carolina Licensed Real Estate Broker-in-Charge, and North Carolina Certified Licensed Real Estate Broker.
Dr. Bryant’s professional experiences include Cap Gemini Ernst Young Consulting firm, Proctor and Gamble Inc., Kimberly-Clark Co., National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA)- Johnson Space Center, Tampa Electric Company (TECO)

About The Speaker
Dr. Keith Berry was born in Tallahassee, Florida on the campus of Florida A&M University (FAMU Hospital). He grew up in Albany, Georgia, and attended the public schools of the city, but returned to Tallahassee and graduated from Florida A&M University with a degree in history in 1987. He entered Florida State University and received the Master of Arts degree in history in 1991, and a doctorate in history in 2005. Dr. Berry is currently a tenured full professor of history in Tampa, Florida where he has taught for twenty years. Dr. Berry has been married for nineteen years and has two sons.
Dr. Berry is a member of the American Historical Association and has been affiliated with the Organization of American Historians (OAH) and the Southern Historical Association over the years, while previously serving on the Editorial Board for the OAH Magazine of History.
Dr. Berry has made numerous guest appearances on the local PBS Affiliate WEDU television political talk show entitled, Florida This Week and is a former freelance writer for the Tampa Bay Times. Dr. Berry has lectured for many years on a range of topics that include race, class, and gender in America.
